This was my first visit to Cancun, and first time coming to Mexico for vacation. I chose Sandos Cancun for our trip due to the availability of beach beds. I dream of these beds all winter long in Canada, relaxing and looking out at the turquoise waters of the Carribean Sea. From the moment of our arrival, our experience was second to none. We were picked up by Best Day tours which provided the ground transportation. Their buses were clean, air conditioned and the drivers were friendly. We arrived mid morning and as expected we were not able to check into our room. Check in is 3pm. The resort is small and older but I loved the size. Having stayed at much larger Carribean resorts where everything is spread out, I enjoyed the intimacy of Sandos and that everything is close. The pool area is clean and well kept. There are three infinity pools, each one seeming to be a different temperature which was nice. Some have commented that the pools are shaded for most of the day but we did not find this to be the case. There are tons of beach beds to access and they were the ultimate place to relax by the pool or beach. It really felt like a luxury vacation to enjoy these all week If I could share a negative experience it would be the tipping games I had to endure to reserve a beach bed. I call it a game because it was obvious the pool staff who I might add were lovely when engaging with them make the beds appear taken by placing a bottle of sun screen or book on them. In reality this is a ploy so that you will come and see the pool staff read give them a tip and the bed is then suddenly available. I observed this daily, and beach beds in the prime pool area sat empty as I watched people walk by going to find one free only to move along to a funny chaise lounge when they assumed the bed was already occupied. I find this tiresome and uncomfortable to deal with on vacation as even when I tipped 2. US on my first day, I got the run around on the second day. My advice to you is to see the pool staff early in the day 9 3. Dont be discouraged if they look taken as they likely are not but, money talks, so give a big tip up front, get the staff members name and you should be good for a few days. I would just prefer not to have to play these games on vacation. Thus I would not give a 5 star rating. The restaurants are fantastic from the gorgeous views at the beachside San Trop to the delicious meals at the steakhouse and Italian restaurant. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted great too. One thing that sets Sandos apart from any resort Ive visited before is that you can order your lunch poolside and have it delivered to you on the beach or by the pool. You can just give in to your lazy holiday These rats are not just your typical hamburgers, fries and pizza but ceviche shrimp taqueria, turkey fajitas, etc. Also, although we did not take advantage, room service is offered daily from 6am 1. We loved the well stocked mini fridge and snacks nuts, chocolate bars, crackers, etc which was a nice treat during our downtime at the end of the day while relaxing before dinner. I was hoping for some fun towel creation surprises but did not get any. The hotel decor is modern and funky which we loved. The wifi is included and strong, never had a concern. Id like to start this review by emphasizing that this was a family trip along with my husband and three minor sons. We were guests of Royal Elite Vacation Club Members. For starters, the weather at the time of arrival at the Sandos Cancun was approximately 9. We were not offered a beverage or even a glass of water. We are frequent travelers and World of Hyatt Members and that is something were always offered upon arrival, not to mention when the temperature calls for it. Our family was a party of five, as such two rooms were booked as the maximum occupancy is 4 per room. We had specifically requested for our rooms to be next to each other. Come to find out not only were our rooms not next to each other but on separate floors We were told there was no availability and there was nothing they could do. Subsequently, my husband had to stay on the 7th floor with our older son while I stayed on the 6th floor with our 1. How ridiculous is that They never accommodated us or fixed it It gets better, I tried to shower that night and there was no hot water As a matter of fact, no hot water for 3 days I have small children and that is just simply unacceptableEspecially when Sandos claims to be a AAA Four Diamond Resort When I reported it, they sent someone to our room and he told us we had to turn on the sink faucet and let it run for 1. That didnt work either I was so cold from showering with cold water that I had to sleep with the AC off and a robe in addition to my pajamas. The next morning, showering with cold water of course, I hung the robe to re use it. When housekeeping came by they took the robe, not sure why and never replaced it. I called and asked for a new one and they never sent it I called several times As if that wasnt enough, while I was in the pool I cut my leg. They have a step in the middle of the pool, yes in the middle go figure. The medicfirst aid person made a report and cleansed the area, applied an antiseptic ointment and a band aid. Not once did they ever call to check up on me. Barwaiter service was extremely slow at the beach cabanas. They only had one person working two sides.
